Take a Dip at Orangeburg County YMCA Park

No summer is complete without a trip to the water park! Orangeburg is sponsored by the YMCA and provides endless fun for the whole family. The park has plenty of water slides, pools, pavilions, and snack bars to enjoy.  If you feel like taking it easy, you have to take a ride down the lazy river, a moving river that stays true to its name.

Admission into the park is free if you are already a Columbia YMCA member! All other prices are charged by height rather than by age. For anyone over 4 feet, the admission price is $8. For anyone under 4 feet, the admission price is $4. All individuals under 4 feet must be wearing a life jacket and will not be permitted to go down any water slides. There are plenty of other fun spots for little ones to enjoy, however!

Stroll Around Edisto Memorial Gardens

Sometimes you have to stop and smell the flowers. At the Edisto Memorial Gardens, nature and man-made beauty come together into beautiful garden grounds. The gardens are flourishing with award-winning roses and beautiful cypress stands along the river. Currently, the gardens display some 4,800 rose plants representing 120 labeled varieties as well as 5 acres of azaleas.

There is no doubt that these gardens hold natural beauty. It is amazing to have a place that flourishes with flowers year-round! The best part about the Memorial Gardens is that they are free! The gardens are a great place to host a family picnic or have a romantic stroll with a partner.

See The Cosmos at IP Stanback Museum and Planetarium

Established in 1980, this museum is an art museum combined with a planetarium. It is a unique opportunity to learn about cultural expression and the cosmos all in the same place! It is not very often that you find a place that combines art and science. The goal of this museum is to showcase the mingling between humanities and sciences and how they may interface to enhance the overall quality of life in communities.

The art exhibited at this museum ranges from artifacts to paintings, to photographs stemming from the African diaspora and contemporary art collections. The planetarium boasts a planetarium projection instrument and a small collection of gemstones and meteor fragments.
