This is a world-class fishing spot, and the lakes hold a 58 lbs. channel catfish world record. Until 1993 the lakes held the world record for striped bass (55 lbs.) and until 1996 for Arkansas blue (109.4 lbs.). The current state records are:

Both lakes are great for fishing all year round. Catching bream is good in April and May. In spring, crappie is plentiful at the mouths of creeks. If you are after smallmouth bass, they are in the deeper south part of the lake.

Largemouth bass can be hooked in the north, where the lake is shallow, and there are more grass and reeds. The bass limit is five at a minimum size of 12 inches. The limit for catfish is also five and for crappie and bluegill 25. There are no limits on the other species.
