Compressor Problems

The compressor is the most important part of the AC system. It converts liquid refrigerant back into a gas, and it pushes air through the system so it can be chilled and blown into the cabin. A worn or damaged compressor can prevent the air from being cooled sufficiently or even stop the AC from working. A compressor can fail due to age, a broken compressor clutch, a blown fuse, damaged wiring, or insufficient refrigerant.

If you don’t hear a slight click every now and again, the compressor isn’t switching on. If you do hear a click, the compressor is working but could lack refrigerant. Our technicians will need to examine your compressor to determine the exact problem. Noisy AC

AC systems don’t make any significant sound when they’re working properly, except for the slight click mentioned above and the sound of cold air gusting into the cabin. Odd noises like rusting, rattling, or clunking are all signs something has gone wrong. Rusting sounds are usually the least worrisome, as they generally mean leaves or dirt are trapped in the AC, and we need to clean the ducts to fix this issue.

Rattling or clunking noises could mean hard objects, like gravel, have entered the ducts or the AC has loose or damaged components. Damaged bearings, for example, will cause clunking noises, and they will cause the compressor to fail if they’re not replaced. We’ll examine your AC, identify the cause of the trouble, and repair it.

Bad Smells From the AC

If you turn on the AC and smell a musty, earthy smell, bacteria have invaded your AC. This is a common problem and usually occurs during winter. During this time of year, your AC isn’t switched on, and the dark AC ducts and the presence of water provide a fertile ground for bacteria to thrive. You’ll only really know they’re there when you turn on the AC again in summer.

Fortunately, this is a quick and very inexpensive issue to fix. Our technicians will add an antibacterial solution to the AC and turn it on. The solution will blow through the system and rapidly remove any traces of bacteria. Your AC will be safe and hygienic again within minutes.
