Music fans in Columbia, South Carolina, are lucky. With venues ranging from the enormous 18,000-seat Colonial Life Arena to more intimate venues like USC’s Koger Center for the Arts and Music Farm, as well as an annual state fair that has attracted such diverse acts as The Roots, Miranda Lambert, and Gladys Knight, there is no shortage of big-name musicians to catch in this charming South Carolina city. Here are some of the performances you shouldn’t miss this fall.

Rock Out With Lynyrd Skynyrd and Alabama at the State Fair

Classic rock fans will relish the opportunity to see Southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd and Alabama this October at the South Carolina State Fair. Lynyrd Skynyrd’s lineup will include original member Gary Rossington as well as Johnny Van Zant, younger brother of original singer and founder Ronnie Van Zant. For Alabama, the fair will be the end cap to their 2016 “Southern Drawl” tour — and if their nearly sold-out 2015 tour is any indication, it’s not a performance you’ll want to miss.

Lynyrd Skynyrd will be playing Friday, October 14 at 7 p.m., and Alabama takes the stage on Wednesday, October 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the Friday show are $30, while the Alabama concert on Wednesday will run you $40. Tickets to either include admission to the fair, which is typically $10, so head to the fairgrounds before the show to enjoy the attractions and get the most bang for your buck.

Dream on With Stevie Nicks

There’s a reason that Stevie Nicks has received 13 Grammy awards, been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and dubbed the “Reigning Queen of Rock and Roll.” Whether it’s her iconic career with Fleetwood Mac, her eight solo albums, or her creative collaborations with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, there’s no denying that Stevie Nicks is an American gem. Catch her this November at Colonial Life Arena as she plays songs from her 2014 album “24 Karat Gold: Songs From the Vault,” as well as classics like “Dreams” and her 1983 hit Prince collaboration, “Stand Back.”

Stevie Nicks is performing Saturday, November 12 at 7 p.m., with the Pretenders opening. Tickets start at $39.

Experience Rock Opera With the Trans Siberian Orchestra

If you like your concerts to be a full-body experience, then the Trans Siberian Orchestra performance at Colonial Life Arena this December is the show for you. The Trans Siberian Orchestra is known for their elaborate performances that include light shows, pyrotechnics, body-pulsing audio, and infectious energy. They’ve sold over 10 million concert tickets during their 20-year tenure, and in 2009 were named one of the top touring artists of the decade.

Rock out and celebrate the transition to winter with the Trans Siberian Orchestra’s “Ghosts of Christmas Eve” tour on December 10 at Colonial Life Arena. The band will be hosting two performances, one at 3:30 p.m. and one at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $40.

These four concerts are only the tip of the area’s live music iceberg, so check the local calendars and get out to enjoy some live music in Columbia this fall.
