If you’re looking to try out some great barbecue places before visiting the Darlington Raceway, then we’ve got the scoop for you. Join us as we look at some of the area’s crown jewels.

1. Nick’s BBQ

Nick’s has both eat-in seating and drive-through, take-out options. Pulled pork sandwiches are popular here with side dish choices that usually include hush puppies, fries, rice and gravy, and macaroni and cheese. Sweet potato souffle, squash casserole, and BBQ salad are other favorites. Nick’s is known for good Southern sweet tea as well as the regional vinegar style of BBQ sauce with a hint of mustard added.

2. Fahrenheit 225

The BBQ sauce you’ll find at Fahrenheit 225 is a little sweeter, and if you have a sweet tooth you’ll likely also enjoy the butter pecan cake for dessert. For a main course option, the brisket grilled cheese on Texas toast, topped with caramelized onions, is a house specialty. You could also opt for the BBQ chicken or ribs.

If you’re dining in a group, The Platter, for four people, comes with your choice of two BBQ meats and three side dishes.

3. Wholly Smokin’ BBQ and Ribs

Less than 10 miles from Darlington, South Carolina’s city of Florence is the location of another fantastic BBQ restaurant. Wholly Smokin’ is a good choice when your mood is for something a little more high-end. They do creative takes on classics and also have a children’s menu for family dining. Wholly Smokin’ is known for beautifully seasoned ribs and fried green tomato stacks.

4. SC House of Wings

When you feel like a chicken, or turkey, wing feast, SC House of Wings offers lots of choices. From honey BBQ to spicy bourbon, and many more in between, there’s a wing flavor to suit every taste. If wings aren’t your thing, their pork chop sandwich is another popular menu item. Side dish options include onion rings, seasoned fries, fried corn, crab rice, and fried okra.

5. Raceway Grill

Home of Tony’s secret habanero BBQ sauce (shhhhh…), Raceway Grill is a much-loved fixture in Darlington. Located across from “The Lady in Black,” a nickname for the Darlington Raceway NASCAR track, racing mementos make up a lot of the decor here. With its casual, fun, atmosphere and reasonable prices, it’s a great place for delicious foods like double cheeseburgers, hamburger steak, chili, and BBQ chicken wings. Don’t forget the corn nuggets and fried pickles with dip!
