Part of taking care of your Kia is ensuring every component of your vehicle is in good condition. For your engine, a routine oil change is the key to prolonging the life of your Kia. Luckily, your Kia dealership makes it easy to schedule preventive maintenance, so you can keep your vehicle in tip-top shape.

The frequency of your oil service will be outlined in your owner’s manual. Broadly speaking, for most Kia models you will only need to schedule oil service about once a year or every 10,000 miles. This service interval is appropriate because of advancements in motor oil and engine design, which allow oil to last much longer in your engine.

However, if you drive your car in harsh conditions, or you drive very frequently, you may need to schedule service every six months. More frequent maintenance every 3,000 to 5,000 miles in harsh or severe conditions will ensure the motor oil levels in your engine are adequate to protect your engine. Harsh driving conditions can allow corrosion or dust to build up in your oil, which means your motor oil will be too dirty or too low to keep your engine clean.

What Are Severe Driving Conditions?

Driving conditions that are considered severe include driving in heavy traffic or on roads with mud, gravel, dust, or salt. Severe conditions can include driving short distances very frequently, driving off-road often, or towing a trailer. Using your car for commercial purposes or idling your car extensively can also qualify as a severe driving condition.

What Other Preventative Maintenance Can You Get at Your Kia Dealership?

At your dealership, you can also schedule other preventative maintenance. Preventative maintenance tasks are typically included in the recommended service schedule found in your Kia’s owner’s manual. These preventative tasks include brake pad replacement, tire rotations, air filter replacement, and windshield wiper replacement. Your dealership can also perform battery checks and other diagnostic tests to ensure other vehicle components are in good condition.

Preventative maintenance is important for a couple of reasons. First, keeping up with recommended maintenance will ensure you are in compliance with the warranty on your new or used Kia. Second, preventative maintenance can repair small issues before significant damage occurs. By preventing major issues with small, consistent repairs, you can save a lot of money in the long run.

Oil service is one of the most routine services your Kia will need to stay in good shape. Modern Kia vehicles should only need oil service once a year, particularly for cars that are driven under normal conditions. Driving your car in severe conditions may require more frequent service.
