Walk Through History in Downtown Columbia

History buffs will be at home in Columbia. There are many historically significant attractions throughout the city, especially in the downtown district. Take a guided historic house tour to see some beautiful architecture. Learn about the development of the city with Historic Columbia’s African American History Tour. We suggest taking a tour through the Robert Mills House, which was built in 1823, for a unique look into life as it was in the mid-1800s.

Meet Furry Friends at the Riverbanks Zoo

The Riverbanks Zoo & Garden is the perfect destination if you’re traveling with kids. Between the learning experiences and the many species of animals that call this zoo home, your family is sure to have a day full of fun. The zoo is separated into sections, each with its own specialization. Head to the Africa exhibit to meet giraffes, lions, baboons, and more. In the Asian section, you’ll see tigers, Komodo dragons, primates, and tapirs. Travel to Australia, through North America, and all around the world at this exciting Columbia attraction.

Explore the Farmer’s Market

The South Carolina State Farmers Market is one of the largest outdoor markets you’ll find anywhere. You never know what you’ll find at this year-round market, which you’ll find at the Phillips Market Center every day throughout the year. If you’re looking for great produce, be sure to visit during peak season from April to early October. In addition to fresh produce, you’ll also find plenty of crafters, artisan food, and gifts galore.

Explore the Great Outdoors at Congaree National Park

If your idea of a good time takes place away from the busy city streets, check out Columbia’s Congaree National Park. This gorgeous and ecologically diverse protected area is a top destination for nature-seekers and outdoor explorers. There are dozens of miles of trails to hike throughout the park. If you’re a kayaker or fisher, you may want to set up camp at Congaree for a night or two to explore everything it has to offer.

Whether you’re a history aficionado, a foodie, a thrill-seeker, or any other kind of traveler, there’s something in Columbia to excite you. These are just a few examples of all there is to do and see in the city, so start exploring to create your perfect trip.
